This comes on the heels of reports that Moto is already working with Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS) on a Smartphone offering. This would raise the total to four Taiwanese handset manufacturers, including BenQ, providing mobile phones to Motorola.

Developers will recognize Compal Communications as the company responsible for the AR11 Smartphone, distributed by Everlink in the Smartphone Developer Kit. Compal Comm. is rumored to be working on a follow-up AR22 model. Its parent company, Compal Electronics, has developed Pocket PC devices for Toshiba, HP and others, as well as its own Amigo Pocket PC. Compal Electronics also builds CDMA handsets sold in China.

If this story proves accurate, Motorola would be in a position to take the Windows Smartphone world by storm. These companies have experience in the Smartphone and Pocket PC devices already. Combine that with their experience on different networks, Motorola could launch a device for any carrier practically at will!
