Along with Longhorn (next version of Windows), Yukon (next version of SQL Server), and Whidbey (next version of Visual Studio.NET) is a set off mobility topics: Designing Mobile Applications for "Longhorn" Laptops and Tablet PCs: Networking, Offline, Power, and Other Considerations Building Power-Aware Windows Applications Using ACPI Exploring Location-Aware Applications in "Longhorn" and Devices Exploring Adhoc Collaboration in "Longhorn" <br /> Inking and Pen Input for "Longhorn" Tablet PC Developing Data Applications for Devices with SQL Server CE 3.0 Developing Smartphone Applications Using the .NET Compact Framework Developing for Devices Using Native C++ with the Visual Studio "Whidbey" Release Exploring New Features in the .NET Compact Framework "Whidbey" Release Code Access Security: Building Secure Device Applications with the .NET Compact Framework Developing Mobile Web Applications for Devices with ASP.NET "Whidbey"For those doing native development with C/C++, this agenda indicates that in the future, native C++ development for Windows CE will be done through the powerful Visual Studio.NET IDE. I'm excited about getting to use all of the great features of VS.NET, but it will be interesting to see what happens to the free Embedded Visual C++ IDE.<br /><br />The other really important item on this list is on developing Smartphone applications using the .NET Compact Framework. At MDC and Tech Ed this topic was touched on briefly, but (based on some of the dates we've heard for when Smartphone 2003 will hit the market)I have a feeling that they will have a lot more to say and demonstrate on this topic for PDC in October.
