There are a whole lot of registry tweaks out there, but one of my favourites is setting the first 6 apps that appear in the first program menu.

Courtesy of "Midnight" from MoDaCo (http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=7695)
Using PHM Registry Editor (http://www.phm.lu/Products/Smartphone/RegEdit/), go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu and display the values. Open the keys for "Order" and change the Value data to whatever 6 apps you want to appear first.

For the rest of the apps, I then just edit the links for each program by putting an alphabetical prefix in front of it so that they appear in the order that I want them to. So for eg a-Call History, b-Contacts etc. These links can be found in IPSM\Windows\Start Menu.

You usually have to soft reset before changes to the menu structure take effect.

Great tip indeed and it's a good idea to have Call History in the first order.

Cheers.

What happens if you remove the lot?
Will it go alahpabetical then folders?

Yes it will

Anyway there is an easier solution than doing it via the registry, this allows for the rearrangement of the first 7 applications (programs / folders), jeyopersoniliser (http://www.jeyo.com) allows you to do that and another great tip could be to organise programs into folders, however note that preinstalled programs cannot be moved into folders.
