More and more Smartphone applications become available for download. My favorite site where I find great software for my Smartphone is Handango's Smartphone software section. Apparantly, the top five most popular downloads for the Smartphone are more downloaded than the top five most popular Nokia Series 60 applications. The most downloaded Smartphone application is Hexacto's Tennis Addict. It is truly an awesome game!

Also, don't forget to check out the Microsoft Windows Mobile site which has a page called Smartphone Downloads. You can find for example a Smartphone Theme Generator with which you can "control over the look and feel of your Smartphone, allowing you to choose the background picture and assign colors to menus, messages, and navigation bars". Tennis Addict truly addictive, and Snails is good for a laugh (if a little loud with the volume on) but games like Interstellar Flames aren't as playable as on the Nokia7650 because the controller is a bit pants.

However, the most essential software (IMHO) is the GPRS counter, something which is shamefully not included with the phone, thus an essential purchase.

PS. The reasons that SPV applications are downloaded more than Series60 on Handango are (IMO);

* Series60 is mainly used by non-geeks who want a phone that does stuff out of the box (which explains the millions of Series60 users out there right now)
* People are satisfied with what comes with the phone
* There are more software outlets for Series60 based phones right now, and so the numbers will be more dilluted

My favorite software for the Smartphone is Free Bubbles from CodeSMP.com. It is a Bubblets type game. Very addictive. The only problem is that is in French, but it is very easy to figure out.

I think Series 60 apps don't get downloaded much from Handango because their selection just isn't very good. I like Handango in general, but for Series 60, there are simply much better places to shop at the moment.

I think part of the reason for this is that Nokia partnered with Digital River (instead of Handango) for its European software market.

My favorite application would have to be SmartphoneNotes, but the Microsoft Remote Display Control program (free, downloadable from the Pocket PC Powertoys page) isn't far behind.
It lets me TYPE SMS-messages directly on to my SPV from my desktop.

There's an article on how to get and use this Pocket PC program on your SPV on CoolSmartPhone:
