search button light always on

My wife and I both have HTC arrives. Her phone started leaving the search light on at all times. When the phone is on standby, charging, always. When I do a full power down, the light turns off, but the second it powers up again the first thing it does is turn back on the light under the search button. About to try a "hard reset" (or whatever it's called in the post iPhone world) , but does anybody know of anything I could try before this drastic measure?
