But if by chance you do lose your grip on it, you can secure the data that is there very simply by putting a passcode on it. Can anyone even guess at why Apple doesn't show the time on the unlock screen? It's incredibly irritating that I have to unlock my iPad to see what time it is. Why would Apple consider the freakin' TIME to be secure information? :rolleyes:

I did... can't find any setting that allows it.

That's not the PIN input screen. That's what you see when you have no PIN security turned on, or what you see after you put in the pin and turn it off and back on again.

I think I got it. The PIN input screen comes on if you unlock via the Smart Cover. Otherwise, you'll get the above screen with the "Slide to Unlock" prompt, which has the time and date on it.

Ohh, yes, you're right! That's exactly it - if you press the power on the iPad, you get the time, and when you unlock it THEN you get prompted for the PIN. But since I use a case that uses the magnetic wake feature, I get prompted for the PIN without first seeing the time/unlock screen. Really irritating. :mad:

I guess it's a design holdover when iOS primarily powered phones. Hopefully iOS 5 fixes that.
