A 10" Dell Android Tablet is Coming

<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://blogs.forbes.com/elizabethwoyke/2011/04/05/dell-10-inch-android-tablet-coming-this-summer/' target='_blank'>http://blogs.forbes.com/elizabethwo...ng-this-summer/</a><br /><br /></div><p><em>"Today I have learned through another source at Dell that the company does have a 10-inch</em> [Android] <em>tablet that is expected sooner, possibly as early as June."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/adt/auto/1302570166.usr309.jpg" style="border: 0;" /></p><p>Forbes got some info on new Dell tablets on the way.&nbsp; At first it was expected they would not release an Android tablet until 2012.&nbsp; Now it turns out a 10" Android tablet could be released in June!&nbsp; Now the Dell Streak 5" and 7" only have 480x800 resolution screens so that really makes them questionable as tablets.&nbsp; They also only run Froyo for now.&nbsp; If Dell turns things around with the 10" and go with at least a 1280x800 display we could have a real contender on our hands.&nbsp; It will at least be running Honeycomb so that's a good start.&nbsp; Dell sells a lot of computers so if they start getting serious about Android I think that's a good thing for Android in general!&nbsp; I also wonder if Dell wouldn't be the one to really start a tablet price war.&nbsp; Everyone could benefit from that!&nbsp; What are your thoughts on a Dell Android tablet?</p>

I have the Streak 7 and I have to say that I love it. The form factor is just right and, despite the screen resolution and lack of Honeycomb (something I hope they will rectify at some point), it's a great little tablet. I have a lot of confidence in Dell's ability to create a great 10" tablet, as well, as long as they take the criticisms of the 7 seriously. If they get their heads in the Android game they will be contenders and have the potential to blow most of the competition away in the price department.

That said, they will have to work hard to keep the weight of a 10" tablet down, as the 7 is almost too heavy. For my money, though, a 7" tablet is just right; anything bigger is too unwieldy for the way I use it.

I am a fan of the 7" tablet size. After using a Xoom I was surprised how I really didn't mind it's form factor where as I am not a fan of the form factor of the iPad. Really, for a lot of media applications 480x800 resolution is ample...and before people laugh at it consider that many people have a Wii connected to a large screen and the best that can do, if you got component cable which didn't come with it, is only 480p, which is 720x480, lower res then the 7" Streak!

I really like the Dell Streak as well, and am looking for a five-inch unlocked model to replace an iPhone ... but can't find any yet at a reasonable price. As for a larger tablet, I do think that Dell has the staff and the expertise to do it right ... but I do wonder if there is some concern (internally at Dell) that by building a killer tablet they may be cannibalizing their PC (netbook) market.
