Let me point out that Microsoft has never built a tablet. Toshiba has, HP has, Motion has, but not MS. MS has, since XP, provided an OS that has Tablet capabilities built in, i.e. touch and pen support, scroll support, voice and handwriting recognition, G-sensor support, etc. IMHO the Windows on a Tablet problem is OEMs trying to cut the cost on tablet hardware and integration, to the point the user experience sucks, leading to a condemnation of the OS. I'll grant that it may have been tough to build a tablet with the processor, RAM, battery life and form factor at a price that would sell. Maybe you still can't, but I'm not sure we have seen anyone really give it their best shot yet. I have hopes for the HP slate. Unfortunately I am not sure HP has hopes for it.
