The company was expected to revealed the device at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show [CES] in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, Amazon.com has put the device up for pre-sale on its U.K. website."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/dht/auto/1294074453.usr1.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #d2d2bb;" /></p><p>Although the dedicated MP3 player market is shrinking - Apple is selling less iPods now than a year ago I believe - it's still a vital market with a lot of money attached to it. Riding on the success of their Galaxy Tab, which is widely regarded as the best Android tablet on the market today, Samsung is unveiling the Galaxy Player this week at CES. Amazon UK has published the specs early though; it will have a 3.2 inch display, be available in 8 GB and 16 GB capacities, support a wide variety of audio and video codecs (MP3, AAC, WAV, FLAC, WMA, OGG, AMR, MPEG4, H.264, H.263, WMV, DivX, and Xvid), and perhaps most importantly will have fully sanctioned support for the Android Marketplace - and be running Android 2.2 (Froyo).&nbsp;</p><p>My reaction? Media players need decently large screens - I already feel like the 3.5" screen on my iPod Touch is too small, so 3.2 inches is going in the wrong direction. For compatibility with Android apps, the resolution is presumably going to be 800 x 480, so I'd have preferred to see a 4" or 4.3" screen in there.</p>

Wow, yeah, that's disappointing. The same device with a 4" screen could have been sweet. That's kind of funny when they put 4 inch screens on all there phones. I'd love to know what Samsung was thinking.

Why not just reuse the Galaxy S platform sans radio and the related electronics?

Sounds like a winner to me!

I figured it would be confusing when they have two products with the same name.

The product shown in this picture is not the new CES-to-be-announced product, but rather something they announced mid last year.

The new product:Samsung formally announced it on Monday and said it would be available in South Korea next month, though it didn't set a shipping date. No price was announced, but pricing will depend on amount of built-in storage.

Samsung is aiming to roll it out in other countries in the April to June period and will display it at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week.

The product, called the Galaxy Player YP-GB1, matches most of the specifications of its Galaxy S phone, though its 4-inch touchscreen uses a liquid crystal display instead of newer organic LED and its operating system will be a more advanced version of Android. The gadget is 9.9 millimeters thick and weighs 121 grams.
There is a lot of other info out there, but I wanted to clear up the confusion. I think this really is a winner product in the category.
