In addition to hundreds (yep, hundreds) of bug fixes, vastly reduced resource usage (think of it as the Prius model of Dropbox), Dropbox 1.0 ("Rainbow Shell") also offers support for extended attributes, selective sync, and a shiny new installation wizard. Those are just the CliffsNotes though - here's the true story behind Dropbox 1.0..."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/dht/auto/1292623997.usr1.jpg" style="border: 0;" /></p><p>If you need to keep files in sync, Dropbox is a great tool to do it - they've reached the big 1.0 milestone, and added a few new features. The most important of which is likely selective sync; if you're synching 30 GB worth of files between your PCs and you have a netbook with 32 GB of storage, you might want to trim that down a bit - now you can.</p><p>Don't have a Dropbox account yet? <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTQwNzY5OTk?src=global0" target="_blank">Sign up for free using this link</a> and you'll get a bonus 250 MB of storage (and so will I).</p>

So I'm curious if you've found a viable replacement for FolderShare yet? Dropbox ain't it. I'm still running the old Live Sync, waiting and hoping for something decent before time runs out. :(

I'm using Live Mesh and cursing every time it starts acting stupid - most of the time it's OK, but when I haven't fired it up on my laptop in a while and it has to sync 50+ files, ugg, it grinds away and slows the whole thing down.

You're right, Dropbox isn't a replacement for FolderShare.

Have you looked at SugarSync? It can do what Live Mesh does, but I think it also forces everything to the cloud as well...there's no local sync option AFAIK.

I've used Sugarsync for about six months and it's excellent. I must admit to being confused about why everyone seems so enthused about Dropbox. Sugarsync does everything it does plus lots more, and it offers same free space. It is fully selective on what to backup, streams audio to mobile devices, shares folders with others, let's you upload via email and synchronizes multiple devices. However, it is fully cloud-based and does not do local sync. Sorry.

The words "Needlessly Complex" come to mind - Dropbox is a very simple, easy to use tool. SugarSync has been out for years, and it never caught on the way Dropbox has - and I don't think that's an accident. I think SugarSync tries to be too many things at once...
