While mostly a minor update, there are some nice additions, starting with a front command dial, making the G12 a two dial camera, which is much faster to operate (incidentally like the recently announced lookalike Nikon P7000). There's a new 2.8" HVGA LCD on a swivel arm, and the camera now records 720p videos at 24 FPS. Like all of Canon's new compacts, built-in HDR is available (shudder) The megapixel count and lens remain unchanged, at 10 megapixels with a 5x zoom lens at 28-140/2.8-4.5 equivalent. The camera will be available next month for US$499.

<MORE />
