I'm not sure about improving the experience or innovation. However, I think this removes some of the conflict of interest arguments about Microsoft entering directly into the hardware/device business.
In theory if MS wanted to create a mobile phone device, they would have to get it from BSquare and not themself. I think this would be a concern for OEMs whether MS' device was based on Windows Mobile or not.
