Both Palm, Inc. and Access/PalmSource are developing new Linux-based versions of the Palm OS.
The one being developed by Palm, Inc. has several advantages. One, it will probably be called the Palm OS, as it owns all the rights to the "Palm" brand. And two, it will definitely be used in devices.
This is the OS that was originally planned for a 2007 release but has now been bumped back to 2008.
The future of ALP, Access' Linux-based OS, is much more problematic. It can't be called the Palm OS, and I don't know of any company that's committed to using it.
