I've always been able to multi-select emails on the Pocket PC email client. Are you referring to the Smartphone version of Windows Mobile only?
On the Pocket PC, try this:
In the Messages app, bring up the sofware keyboard. Activate the "Ctrl" key, then tap each message you want to select. This also works with the "Shift" key if you want to select a bunch of messages in a row. You can also tap and drag with the stylus.
