Sorry. I assumed that almost any photo editing software would come with a color counter, but after I took a look at some of mine, I found that to be a false assumption.
If you don't mind downloading some software, a freeware image viewer called
IrfanView can count colors in images. It's pretty safe to use, as it gives you clear control over file associations from the setup program.
