Can only reply to two questions:
1. Go to
www.scarybearsoftware.com Download their notification fix. It is called Check Notify or something. If you have already done that, I don't have another suggestion.
3. You are out of luck there. Either live with it, or shell out 1-2 hundred to get it replaced.
