Unless something dramatic has changed, all sleeves should be compatible across the iPaq line with the single exception of the iPaq 1910. This according to the HP rep who gave me a demo on them a couple weeks ago.
I remember reading somewhere that the "old" sleeves won't work with either the 5xxx or 1910. I keep thinking it was on the HP site, but i'm not sure.
There was some discussion about whether the 5400 series would support sleeves. Some people didn't think they would, others (like me) thought HP would be crazy to make their high-end iPAQs not support sleeves.

Suffice it to say that you're wrong -- the 5400s do support sleeves (at least the HP ones). If you had gone to HP's web site (hp.com) and clicked three links, you'd have seen this page, which clearly shows support for the 5400.

Some of the third-party sleeves don't list the 5400 as being supported, but that probably just means HP didn't test them (or didn't get updated information from the sleeve's manufacturer). If you want information on those sleeves, checking the manufacturers' Web sites would be better.

For example, the HP page lists the Pocket CoPilot Jacket Edition as only supporting the 3100 and 3600 series, but I use it just fine on my 3870. The TravRoute Web site says it supports the 3600, 3700, 3800 and 3900 series (and I would assume it supports the 5400 series, too, if it works with the 3900s).
