Have you looked in Settings | System | Power? There is an option to turn the unit off if using the device on external power after a defined time period. |
I have the option set to leave my iPAQ 3870 on if it's connected to external power, and I occasionally see my iPAQ turn off on the cradle, too. It's almost as if the iPAQ isn't properly seated in the cradle, but the power light is on, so I know it really is on external power.
